CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Host DeSales scored early and often on Tuesday night to pull away with a 17-0 victory over The University of Scranton in a non-conference baseball matchup.

The Bulldogs level their record at 13-13 on the season with the win while the Royals, who have dropped their last five games, fall to 10-13 heading into the completion of a key Landmark Conference game with Susquehanna on Wednesday.

On an evening when rain forced the start of the game to be delayed for a half hour, the runs came pouring in early for DeSales, who put up crooked numbers in the first three innings to take control of the game.

The Bulldogs scored five runs in the first inning, added three in the second inning, and used a six-run third inning to open up a 14-0 advantage.

The hosts added a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to close out the scoring.

While the DeSales offense was firing on all cylinders, the Bulldogs' pitching staff stifled Scranton's offense, holding the Royals to just one hit – a pinch hit double from sophomore Kyler McAllister (Jefferson Township, Pa./Scranton Prep)

Sophomore Alex DeRosa (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) took the loss on the mound for Scranton while striking out four batters over the first two innings.

Junior Sam Flannery (Hop Bottom, Pa./Mountain View) fanned three batters in four innings of work while freshman John Napolitano (Somerdale, N.J./Paul VI) picked up two K's in a pair of scoreless innings in which he held the Bulldogs without allowing a hit.

Scranton heads to Susquehanna on Wednesday for the completion of a key Landmark Conference game that begin on March 16 in Florida before rain forced the game to be suspended.  The Royals and River Hawks will resume play with the score tied 1-1 with no outs in the bottom of the second inning.
