Oglethorpe falls to crosstown rival Emory on the road

The Oglethorpe baseball team suffered a rough day Wednesday at Emory's Chappell Park in Atlanta, losing to the homestanding Eagles 13-1. With the loss, the Stormy Petrels fell to 9-24 on the season.

The Petrels allowed two runs in the first, single runs in the fourth and sixth, five in the fifth, and four in the eighth. While allowing the 13 runs, they issued a school-record 19 walks and hit a batter. Combined with their eight hits, Emory got a base runner on in every inning.

Oglethorpe tallied their lone run of the game on the first career home run by sophomore Christian Perez. The Petrel outfielder launched a pinch-hit homer to left in the eighth inning.

Freshman right-hander Drew Snow got the start and suffered the loss, falling to 1-2 on the season. The Petrels used eight pitchers on the day Wednesday.

Oglethorpe will get back to action Saturday and Sunday when they welcome Hendrix to Anderson Field. Saturday's doubleheader gets started at 2 p.m. and features Senior Day festivities prior to Game 1. Sunday's single game is scheduled for noon.
