Sewanee Baseball Sweeps Majors in Sunday Slugfest

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee baseball team finished a three-game sweep of the Majors of Millsaps College with a 15-12 victory Sunday afternoon at Montgomery Field to conclude the home schedule.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Majors started the scoring with a four-run opening inning, capped by a two-run double by Mason Little.

-In the bottom of the first, Riley Brandvold, for the second straight day, launched a leadoff home run, his fifth of the season.

-After Millsaps added a run in the top of the second to lead 5-1, the Tigers' bats came out strong. After an RBI single by Josh Roberts, Chris McNulty, with the bases loaded, cleared the bases with a double to even the score at five runs apiece.

-After the rarity of a scoreless third inning on both sides, the Majors scored three runs in the top half of the fourth to reclaim the lead, 8-5.

-In the next half inning, the Tigers scored twice to cut the deficit to 8-7.

-In the bottom of the fifth, Brandvold flexed his muscle again with another bomb to left field that tied the game at eight runs apiece. Tyler Dunbar gave the Purple and Gold the lead with a base knock through the left side.

-Once again, the Majors would not go away quietly, as they tacked on two runs in the top of the sixth to reclaim the lead, 10-9.

-In the bottom half, the Tigers took the lead from the Majors away once again, this time for good. Bryce Benedict sent one to the scoreboard in left field to even the score at 10 runs each.

-Later in the inning, Wesley Christian and Trey Akins scored to lead 12-10 after six complete innings.

-Sewanee added three runs in the seventh to put the contest away.

-The Tigers finish the home schedule with a 15-5 record.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Riley Brandvold recorded a multi-homer game, as he finished the day with a 3-for-5 performance with three runs scored and two RBI.

-Josh Roberts also recorded a three-hit game and drove in three RBI.

-Lucas DeSantis (1-2) earned the win in relief, allowing two runs in two innings.

-Dalton Buckingham finished the contest with by retiring five of the final seven batters to collect the save.

-The Tigers were patient at the plate, as they recorded 11 walks in the win. For the series, the Purple and Gold were able to reach base 17 times via the base on balls.

MILLSAPS KEY STATISTICS
-Brennan Ducote recorded a 4-for-6 day at the plate with two doubles and a run scored.

-Nathan Chilton went 2-for-5 with three RBI.

-Zach Kodra (1-2) allowed three runs, one earned, in the sixth inning.

The regular season concludes next weekend with a series at No. 30 Birmingham-Southern.
