Piper BB Beats UM-Morris in a Walk, 15-0

More news about: Hamline

Nolan Schoonveld had a night to remember and the Hamline won its fourth game in a row in a walk with a 15-0 win over Minnesota-Morris in their 2019 CHS Field debut Tuesday night.

Schoonveld rapped out five hits and scored three times to lead a 11 hit assault on eight UMM pitchers. The Pipers also showed a good eye at the plate, working 14 walks as they improved to 11-13 overall on the season.

A five run third inning and a six run sixth provided most of the offense for Hamline . Schoonveld had four singles and a double to raise his batting 32 points to a team leading .354. Cullen Buck was 2-for-3, drove in three runs and scored four times. Jake Dujmovic was 3-for-5 with four RBIs.

The Piper pitchers earned stars as well. Six of them held the Cougars to three hits, walked nobody and struck out 11 batters. Ben Resnick, the second of the sextet of hurlers, earned the win with two perfect innings, including four strikeouts.

HU threatened in the first two innings but didn't score. In the third, Schoonveld had a pair of hits as the Pipers sent 11 batters to the plate. Three innings later, they went one better with a dozen batters taking their turn. Dujmovic's two RBI double was the big blow.

All in all, it was a grand opening.

Hamline now turns its attention back to MIAC play. The scheduled doubleheader with St. Mary's has been pushed back a day to Thursday, April 18 at 2:00 p.m. at CHS Field. The next day, HU will finish the game that was suspended last week in Moorhead. Hamline leads 5-2 as Concordia comes to the plate in the last of the 7th inning. On Saturday, the Pipers (3-4 in MIAC games) welcomes Macalester to CHS for a 1:00 p.m. pair.
