William Paterson scored six runs in the first two innings of Tuesday night's non-conference baseball game against The University of Scranton and never looked back on its way to a 10-1 victory at Volpe Field.

The Pioneers improved to 19-10 on the season with the win while the Royals slipped to 10-15 this spring after suffering their seventh straight loss.

William Paterson batted around in the top of the first inning, scoring four runs on five hits to take a 4-0 lead before Scranton came to the plate.

The Pioneers added two more runs with an RBI triple and a sacrifice fly in the visitor's second to open up a six-run advantage before the Royals got on the board as senior Ian McIntosh (Newtown, Pa./LaSalle College H.S.) came home on an RBI groundout by sophomore Ben Grochowski (Old Forge, Pa./Old Forge).

The Pioneers maintained the 6-1 lead through to the top of the sixth when they scored a pair of unearned runs before adding single runs in the seventh and eighth to open up a 10-1 advantage.

Freshman Chris Wagner (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles while sophomore Kevin Johnson (Whitehouse Station, N.J./Hunterdon Central) also doubled for Scranton.

The Royals used seven pitchers on the evening with freshman Ryan Heiser (New Milford, N.J./Saint Joseph Regional) leading Scranton with a pair of perfect innings out of the bullpen, holding the Pioneers off the base paths in the fourth and fifth innings.

Jeff Lombardi held Scranton to one run on six hits in eight innings for William Paterson, which finished the evening with a 13-8 advantage in hits with the Royals committing the game's only error.

Scranton travels to Widener on Wednesday for a non-conference contest starting at 4 p.m. in Chester, Pa.
