BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Sewanee baseball team were defeated by the Panthers of Birmingham-Southern, 5-3, Friday evening from Striplin Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-BSC scored three runs in the bottom half of the first inning, but the Tigers responded with two runs in the third. Riley Brandvold recorded a base knock to score Josh Roberts. Later in the frame, Jack Galanek brought Brandvold home via a groundout.
-Birmingham-Southern was unable to give the Sewanee defense a shutdown inning in the bottom half of the third thanks to a homer to right.
-After each team strung together consecutive scoreless innings, Brandvold ended that streak with a dinger of his own to left in the seventh to make it a 4-3 affair.
-BSC added a key insurance run in the bottom half of the seventh to secure the 5-3 victory.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Riley Brandvold went 3-for-5 on the day with two RBI and runs scored each.
-Jake Woolard and Jack Galanek also recorded a multi-hit game with two hits each.
-Dalton Buckingham (3-4) allowed two earned runs on four hits in two innings.
BIRMINGHAM-SOUTHERN KEY STATISTICS
-Tyler Wise and Tyler Hamer each tabbed two hits in the contest for BSC.
-Jake Cook (6-2) tossed seven innings for the Panthers, allowing three runs on nine hits with nine strikeouts.
