LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After a 5-0 week, Golden Eagles baseball swept the SLIAC weekly awards, Eric Meyer earning Hitter of the Week, while Peyton Hood was named Pitcher of the Week.
Meyer, a Frankfort, Ky. native, powered his way to the award after hitting four home runs, tying the Spalding program record for home runs in a season during the NCAA era. Meyer's 10 home runs currently ranks 11th in NCAA Division III. Meyer, a junior infielder, hit a long ball in four consecutive games last week, helping the Golden Eagles to five conference wins. He also drove in 10 runs on the week while hitting .400 and finished with a 1.100 slugging percentage. Meyer had three multi-hit games and three games of three RBI as well.
Hood, a sophomore from Louisville, Ky., came on in relief with bases loaded in the first inning to secure a win for the Golden Eagles. With the Golden Eagles trailing, 2-0, the right-hander went on to throw 6 1/3 scoreless innings while allowing just one hit. He struck out 12 in the game as Spalding fought their way back to victory.
Up next, the Golden Eagles head to Blackburn College Friday, April 26 to play three innings of a game that began on April 6 and was suspended heading into the seventh inning due to heavy rain. From there, the Golden Eagles will head to Iowa Wesleyan for a doubleheader Saturday at 1:00 pm ET.
