BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Keuka College Baseball team swept a non-conference doubleheader at Medaille College on Wednesday afternoon.
Keuka College (18-13) held on for the 5-4 victory in game one. The Green and Gold then topped the Mavericks 11-5 in the nightcap.
Keuka College 5 at Medaille College 4 – Game One
The Green and Gold took a 3-0 lead before the Mavericks had an at bat. Brooks Vertoske (Horseheads, N.Y. / Horseheads) led the game off with a solo home run, the fourth of the season. Anthony Mashewske (Newark, N.Y. / Newark) followed with a double and a single by Dan Bamann (Rochester, N.Y. / Irondequoit) left runners at the corners with no out. The Wolves would score on a fielder's choice and groundout for the 3-0 advantage.
Keuka College added to their lead in the second as the first two batters reached base. After being bunted over and a strikeout, Dan Bamann provided the big two-out hit. The senior singled to score a pair as the Wolves led 5-0.
Medaille College answered with two runs in the bottom of the third and the score remained 5-2 into the bottom of the seventh. The Mavericks got a two-run single, but Tyler Key (Chico, Calif. / Gridley) stranded the tying runner at third base, striking out the final batter for the save in a 5-4 Keuka College victory.
Lead Wolf: Dan Bamann finished with two hits and two runs batted in for the Wolves. The senior now has 122 career hits, tying Matt Schaffer for seventh-most in program history.
Keuka College 11 at Medaille College 5 – Game Two
The Mavericks took advantage of a walk and early Keuka College error to take a 1-0 lead after one inning.
That score held until the top of the fourth inning. A two-out error by Medaille extended the inning and the Wolves would capitalize. Keuka College tied the game and then took the lead on back-to-back bases-loaded walks to make it 2-1. Brooks Vertoske then plated a pair as he hit a two-run double. Following another run on a passed ball, Anthony Mashewske delivered a single to plate Vertoske and give the Wolves a 6-1 lead.
Medaille responded right back with the three runs in the bottom of the fourth, but the Wolves had an answer. Keuka College scored two on a Medaille error in the fifth. The Wolves then scored three in the sixth. Ryan Seales (Saratoga Springs, N.Y. / Saratoga Springs) and Caleb Ladd (Trumansburg, N.Y. / Charles O. Dickerson) each had RBI singles. Tyler Broderick (State College, Pa. / Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy) added a sacrifice fly in the frame to make it 11-4.
Medaille College scored one in the sixth but the Wolves shut them down from there as Keuka College continued onto the 11-5 victory.
Lead Wolf: Anthony Mashewske led the way at the plate with his first three-hit game of the season. The junior tied his career-best for hits in a game, a mark he set against Medaille College last season.

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves return to North Eastern Athletic Conference play with a three-game series against Wells College. Keuka College will face the Express in a doubleheader on Saturday and then a single game on Sunday. All three games will be at Wells College in Aurora, N.Y. The two teams will enter the weekend in the middle of the playoff race. Keuka College sits in third with an 8-3 conference record while Wells is in fifth, two games back with a 6-5 record in the NEAC.
