More news about: Gwynedd Mercy

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy and Albright combined for 33 hits and 29 runs, but the Griffins were able to fight off the Lions in a wild 15-14 victory on Thursday afternoon.

GMercyU trailed 5-0 into the bottom half of the second where they erupted for 10 runs on 10 hits to reclaim a lead they would not relinquish.

Leading 15-6, Albright made things very interesting by scoring eight runs in the eighth to climb within one run. Reliever Liam Sullivan entered in the eighth to get three outs and then retire the side in the ninth to pick up his second save of the week.

Offensively, Sachael Sciarretta continued on his hot streak, going 3-for-5 with four RBIs. Tommy Nardini also drove in four runs, going 2-for-2 with a walk and three runs. He would hit his first career homerun, a three-run shot, as part of that 10-run second.

Ryan Keen and Nick Mulvey each added three hits. Keen scored three times while Mulvey knocked in three runs. The team reached double-digit hits in four of their last five games.

In the fourth, Gwynedd plated three runs, two of which came from Sciarretta on a two-out base hit. RBI's from Nardini in the fifth, and Mulvey in the sixth upped the lead to 15-6.

Sullivan was the third pitcher to enter in the eighth after the Lions threatened. He got a big strikeout with a man on second to end the charge. His 1-2-3 ninth helped cement the win for Gwynedd.

Starter Bryan Kaelin went five innings yielding five runs (one earned) on seven hits and a walk.

Logan Adams totaled four RBIs while teammate Jimmie Gentry collected four hits for Albright.

Gwynedd Mercy plays an Atlantic East Doubleheader at Neumann on Saturday with a chance to lock up the #2 playoff seed with a sweep.
