Rhodes Baseball One Win Away from SAA Tournament Championship

More news about: Rhodes

Conway, Ark. - Rhodes College baseball scored five runs in the first inning on their way to a 14-4 7-inning victory over No. 8 ranked Millsaps College Saturday. Normally there is no run-rule in SAA Tournament play, but due to rain moving in later in the evening, the rule was implemented to make every effort to get all three games in on Saturday. The Lynx are one win away from advancing to the SAA Tournament Championship next weekend.

A leadoff double in the first from Jacob Telli started a four-hit and a walk inning which scored five runs. Jake Stacy recorded the game-winning RBI to the shortstop with the bases loaded which scored Ryan Palermo. A passed ball on a strikeout scored Millsaps' first run of the game in the third inning. Rhodes took an 8-1 lead after scoring three runs in the fourth on two hits and another Major error. In the fifth inning Rhodes earned four walks, including a walk for an RBI, a double steal to score Ben Wilson at home before Will Heurtin singled in two runs to give the Lynx a 12-1 lead.

In the sixth, Rhodes scored another two runs after a Telli double, a hit by pitch, a groundout and a Paul Giacomazzi sacrifice fly. With Rhodes up 14-1, Millsaps scraped together two runs in the top of the seventh on three singles and a double.

Wood Kimbrough went 2-for-2 with two walks, three runs scored and three RBI. Overall, five doubles were recorded in the game, two from Telli. On the mound, Jacob Dubs fanned six Majors and allowed zero earned runs in five innings to pick up the win. Giacomazzi and Palermo each walked three times while Giazomazzi and Brady John also scored three runs.

Rhodes will play at 11 a.m. on Sunday against host and No. 1 seeded Hendrix.
