Hussein’s Strong Outing Lifts Keystone Past Clarks Summit 4-0

SCRANTON, Pa. - Senior Mohammed Hussein (Queens, NY/William C. Bryant)struck out 14 in a complete game shutout to lift the Keystone College baseball team past Clarks Summit University 4-0 in CSAC action on Friday night at the University of Scranton's Quinn Athletic Complex.

Hussein enjoyed 6 1/3 perfect innings before the Defenders reached on an error. The senior's no-hit bid was ruined in the bottom of the seventh but the righty responded and struck out three in the eighth.

The Giants improve to 20-13 (12-1 CSAC) and will host Clarks Summit in a doubleheader tomorrow at 12 p.m. at Mathewson Field for Senior Day. The Defenders fall to 7-24 (3-10 CSAC).

Hussein earned his fourth win of the spring and allowed only two hits and walked one, forcing seven flyouts and five groundouts. At the plate, he helped his own cause by going 1-for-4 with an RBI single to left in the sixth.

Offensively, Keystone finished with eight hits and tallied one run in the second, sixth, seventh and ninth frames. Senior Ronald Medina (Bronx, NY/Dewitt Clinton)ripped an RBI double to left in the second, scoring junior Nick Carlini (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights).

Junior Joe Fichera (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) hit a run-scoring single to right to score freshman Chris Hadsall (Lehman, Pa./Lake Lehman) in the seventh and followed that with an RBI double to right to score junior Ryan Callahan (Highland Mills, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury).

Fichera finished 2-for-4 with two RBI at the leadoff spot and Hadsall went 2-for-4 in the eight hole. Senior Johann Paniagua (Bronx, NY/James Monroe Campus High School) ripped a double while freshman Devin Reed (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton Area)provided a base knock.
