WPI Falls to MIT in NEWMAC Tournament Winner's Bracket Final

Norton, MA --- Home runs from Thomas Allison and Andrew Krause helped push No. 4 MIT past No. 2 WPI 10-0 Saturday afternoon in game five of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament at Sidell Stadium on the Wheaton College campus. 

MIT (21-16-1) will now compete for the NEWMAC Championship on Sunday, May 5. MIT will face the winner of No. 2 WPI (23-15)/No. 3 Babson who will play prior to the championship game on Sunday. Sunday's contests will be hosted by at the New England Baseball Complex in Northboro. 

Ethan Rollan (2-for-5) put MIT on top 1-0 in the top of the second with a single up the middle that knocked in Alec Kushner (1-for-5). 

Allis cleared the bases in the third with a three-run home run that picked up Matt Johnston (4-for-5) and Tony Rice (2-for-5) who both reached earlier in the inning on singles to right. 

Kraus followed with a three-run home run of his own in the fifth. Kraus' home run also picked up Rice and Johnston who reached on back-to-back lead off singles. 

MIT took a 10-0 lead in the top of the eighth, starting with an RBI single to right center from Rollan. MIT plated two more runs later in the inning with Rollan and Rice both scoring on wild pitches. 

Patrick Callahan (5-1) picked the complete game win after giving up just six hits while striking out seven. Kyle Foley (Watertown, MA) (1-1) collected the loss for WPI after giving up four runs on seven hits in just 2.1 innings of work. 

Ryan Tropeano (Pembroke, MA) picked up two of the WPI's six hits, while Tyrone Patterson (Upper Marlboro, MD), Matt Howard (Worcester, MA), Steven Gallagher (Coventry, RI), and Jordan DeDonato (Danvers, MA) managed the other hits.
