NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University baseball team earned a split of its non-conference doubleheader against College of New Rochelle, at Flowers Park, on Friday afternoon. Yeshiva (3-26) won the opening game, 7-0, while New Rochelle (5-28) was victorious in game two, 15-5.

History was made, as senior left fielder Aryeh Salovey set a program-record by hitting his eighth career triple. The previous record was seven, held by Zachary Perl ('16). Salovey earned the milestone hit in the top of the fifth, in game two, as his record-clinching triple allowed two runs to score. The San Diego native also set the program's single-season record with 50 total bases.

Junior center fielder David Hanelin also made history, on Friday, as his five singles during the doubleheader set a program single-season record for hits, with 31. The original record-holder was Shmuli Goldis ('18), who produced 30 hits in 2016. Hanelin set the record by singling in the top of seventh inning, during game two.

Junior pitcher Sonny Braha earned a complete-game shutout victory in game one. Braha advances his record to 2-1 for the season. His fourth win in his collegiate career sets a program-record. David Kesselman ('11) won three career games on the mound for YU.

The Maccabees and Blue Angels were scoreless heading to the top of the third, in game one. With runners on second and third, nobody out, Hanelin broke the scoreless tie by slapping a single to left center field to score two runs and give the Macs the lead. Hanelin eventually scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of freshman first baseman David Kreisberg. Salovey scored on a wild pitch for Yeshiva's fourth run of the inning.

YU added two more runs in the fifth, highlighted by an RBI single courtesy of Hanelin. Sophomore catcher S.J. Tannenbaum picked up a run batted in during the sixth, to score Salovey, capping off the scoring for Yeshiva. The Macs went on to earn the non-conference win, 7-0.

Braha only gave up one hit in seven innings pitched, while striking out five New Rochelle batters. Junior pitcher James Jiggetts went one inning and took the loss.

At the plate, Hanelin and Salovey each went 2-for-4, with the former driving in three runs, and the latter hitting a double, while scoring twice. Braha went 2-for-3, including a double, and scored a run. Sophomore third baseman Moshe Stuart singled, walked, stole a base, and scored twice. Kreisberg reached base with a single, while junior shortstop Zachary Baly scored a run and earned a base on balls. Senior second baseman Shmuel Silverstein drew a walk of his own.

Yeshiva grabbed a 1-0 lead in the opening frame of game two, thanks to Hanelin scoring on a throwing error. CNR scored one run in the first, and then another in the second, to take the lead.

In the top of the third, Salovey scored on an RBI groundout by sophomore right fielder Avi Nat, to tie the game at two runs apiece.

The Blue Angels' lineup broke out in home half of the fourth, scoring seven runs, to take a commanding 9-2 lead. The highlight of the inning was an RBI single off the bat of freshman first baseman Samuel Zambrana.

YU got three of those runs back, in the next half-inning. After Baly led off YU's productive inning with a single, Hanelin tied the program single-season hits record with a single of his own, to put runners on first and second, with nobody out. Salovey's record-setting eighth career triple drove in Baly and Hanelin, pulling the Macs to within five runs. Salovey eventually scored, thanks to Kreisberg's second sacrifice fly of the afternoon, narrowing the Blue Angels' lead to 9-5.

The home team added a run in the bottom of the fifth, and then five more in the sixth, on its way to a 15-5 victory in game two.

For the Maccabees, Baly went 2-for-4, while Hanelin went 3-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored.  Salovey produced two hits and scored just as many times. Kreisberg went 2-for-3, while Nat drew a walk.

On the mound, sophomore pitcher Dovie Solomon started the game and took the loss. For New Rochelle, sophomore pitcher Adam Gonzalez struck out three YU batters, in three innings pitched, and was credited with the win.

Yeshiva will conclude the 2019 season with a non-conference doubleheader at Western Connecticut State, on Sunday afternoon. First pitch at Westside Field is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
