LOS ANGELES — Nolan McCarthy won SCIAC Pitcher of the Year, leading a group of five Occidental baseball players that were named All-SCIAC on Thursday.

Jake Fredrickson joined McCarthy on the First Team and Jack Brancheau, Reid Gibbs and Diego Ramirez all made the Second Team.

"I'm really happy for all of them," Oxy head coach Luke Wetmore said. "We're excited about Diego's future in the program, having a two-year staff ace is something that hasn't happened in awhile with McCarthy, Jake has been crushing the ball and Reid and Jack couldn't be more deserving of this recognition."

McCarthy, a 6-foot-5 junior righty from Portland, Ore., dominated SCIAC hitters, going 6-2 with six complete games, the best ERA (1.80) in the league and the second most strikeouts (58).

Fredrickson, Oxy's first baseman, was among the top hitters in the conference, leading the league in home runs (4) and RBIs (23). He had the fifth-best slugging percentage (.585), eighth-best on base percentage (.441) and hit .329.

Ramirez, a first year, has been Oxy's second-best pitcher in both starting and relieving roles. He ranks third in the SCIAC in ERA (2.38), ninth in strikeouts (34), and has three saves and three wins.

Senior second baseman Reid Gibbs and senior center fielder Jack Brancheau both made the teams after very-deserving and somewhat unheralded four-year careers. Both helped lead the Tigers to their first SCIAC Championship since 1982 in 2016 and have been cornerstones of the culture, along with very productive players on offense and defense. Gibbs' season included a 22-game hitting streak through the bulk of the season and both rank among the leaders in many offensive categories.
