Baruch Baseball Punches First-Ever Ticket to NCAA, Defeat Husson for NCAA Berth

The Baruch College Bearcats defeated the Eagles of Husson University in a best-of-three series to advance to the NCAA Championship Tournament for the first time in team history.

The visiting Bearcats lost the second game of the series 8-2 earlier today, but bounced back a few hours later to win the deciding third game in convincing fashion 7-3 to earn the coveted NCAA berth.

The full NCAA Division III bracket, schedule, and locations will be announced on Monday 12:00 p.m. via NCAA.com.

The Bearcats struggled in the second game and fell behind early 5-0. They did score twice in their final at-bat on a two-run single by Nicholas Valeriano, but the game ended 8-2. 

The third game they started on fire scoring three runs in the second inning in the order of an RBI single by Kemal Deljanin, an RBI double by Jacob Auerbach, and an RBI single by JP Ramirez for a 3-0 lead.

Husson got one back in the fifth inning to cut it to 3-1, but an Emmanuel Taveras two-run double in the sixth started to put the playoff out of reach for the Eagles at 5-1.

The Bearcats added insurance runs in the seventh inning for a 7-1 lead.

The Eagles did not go away quietly in their final at-bat, plating a pair of runs, but Matthew Lawlor got the final out to clinch the 7-3 victory on Husson's home soil.
