Alex Burman hit a go-ahead, two-run double in the ninth inning and Will Carey closed out an instant classic and the Susquehanna University Baseball defeated TCNJ to kick off regional play in Baltimore. The Lions (31-10) are ranked No. 8 in the latest d3baseball.com national rankings. The victory puts the team in the winners bracket and the River Hawks (24-16) will face the winner of Johns Hopkins and Farmingdale State.

How It Happened

• Following a quiet top of the first inning for the River Hawk bats, starter Tyson Thrush worked himself into a jam in the bottom of the inning. With the bases loaded and one out, Thrush got a groundball to Craig Roumes who started a double play to get out of it.
• After a turn through the lineup, Susquehanna got the bats going, starting with an Anthony Dombrowski infield single. Following a balk, Berger bunted him over and Alex Burman had an RBI groundout to give the team the lead.
• Two innings later, the River Hawks put together a rally to extend the advantage. With two outs, Ben Burman and Steve Lorenz put together run-scoring hits to make it 3-0.
• The Lions would slowly claw back into this one knocking a two-run homer in the fifth and a slow-rolling, two-out RBI infield single in the sixth to tie it up. An RBI-double in the seventh gave TCNJ its first lead of the game.
• Down to the last three outs, Dombrowski led off with a walk after being down 0-2 in the count. Berger followed him with a single up the middle to bring up Alex Burman. Electing to not bunt paid off and Burman smoked a double down the right field line to score both runners.
• Carey, who had been in since Thrush exited in the sixth inning, finished the game with a clean ninth inning. The final batter flew out to center field and Susquehanna defeated the No. 1 seeded College of New Jersey 5-4.

Inside the Box Score

• The River Hawks continue to hit every pitcher they face. Against two of the Lions' best, they connected on 15 hits. The Burman brothers, Berger, Lorenz, Peter Yarem and Justin Miller all had multi-hit games.
• Thrush put together his second straight solid start under pressure. Besides a few late runs, he settled in nicely after a rocky bottom of the first.
• Carey carried his strong pitching from the Landmark Tournament to Baltimore, relinquishing just one run in over three innings of work.
• David Cardona III had two hits and an RBI to lead the Lions. He had the potential go-ahead hit before Alex Burman turned the tables.
