WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 5, 2019) --- King's College head baseball coach Jerry Greeley had a very productive and enjoyable summer while coaching in the Baltimore Orioles minor league system. Jerry was part of the coaching staff for the Orioles Gulf Coast League team in Sarasota, FL that finished with a 38-15 record and captured the Gulf Coast League Southern Division Championship.

The Orioles finished seven games ahead of the second-place Twins Gulf Coast team that finished with a 30-21 record. The Gulf Coast Orioles also recorded the best record in the Gulf Coast League with the second-best record coming from the GCL Phillies West squad that went 33-15 to win the Northern Division. One special moment of the summer for Greeley was filling out the lineup card on Saturday, July, 20. On that day, Adley Rutschman, the 2019 number one pick in the MLB Draft made his professional debut after a great career at Oregon State. Rutschman went 1-for-4 batting fifth with a home run in his first game for the O's. The catcher played five games for the GCL Orioles before being promoted to the Aberdeen IronBirds of the New York-Penn League.

The 2019 season was Greeley's 20th year with the Baltimore Orioles organization and his 22nd overall year as a professional baseball coach in Major League Baseball's minor league system. Greeley also spent two years as a minor league coach with the Cincinnati Reds in 2002 and 2003.  At King's, Greeley has led the Monarchs to the postseason in thirteen of his seventeen seasons as the head coach.
