BW Baseball Falls to Swarthmore (Pa.) in First Game of Snowbird Classic

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – In the first game of the Snowbird Classic, the Baldwin Wallace University baseball team fell to Swarthmore (Pa.) University, 3-1 at the North Charlotte Regional Park.

BW (3-3) plated one run off seven hits.

Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference shortstop Alex Ludwick (Brunswick/Padua Franciscan) brought home the lone run of the game with an RBI single to right in the seventh. Sophomore catcher JT Mazula (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) went 2-for-4 at the plate with two singles. Senior left fielder Jacob Bonner (Akron/Archbishop Hoban), freshman first baseman Luke Vonderhaar (New Bremen), freshman second baseman Cameron Jones (Naples, Fla./Lely), and sophomore designated hitter Drew Wilson (Sagamore Hills/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) each tallied a hit.

Senior pitcher Spencer Aukerman (Medina) was the Yellow Jackets starter and he dealt five innings and allowed two earned runs off five hits and struck out five. Freshman right-handed pitcher Dawson Gabe (Lawrence, Ind.) threw three innings and allowed one earned run off five hits and struck out five.

BW hits the field next tomorrow for a contest against Bridgewater State (Va.) University. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
