The Oglethorpe baseball team split a doubleheader with the Centre Colonels Saturday in Danville, Kentucky, taking the first game 5-2 before falling 5-4 in the second. The results moved the Stormy Petrels to 4-7 on the season.

The Petrels scored 3 runs in the ninth to bag Game 1 after falling behind 2-0 early. They gave up single runs in the first and fourth innings, but began to come back in the fifth when a leadoff walk by junior designated hitter Jevon Lewis came around to score on fielder's choice, cutting the Centre lead in half. The Petrels tied the score with an unearned run an inning later, setting the stage for the ninth inning with the score still tied 2-2.

Senior shortstop Alex Featherstone led off with a base hit, then senior right fielder Chris Keane singled to put runners at the corners with one out. Senior catcher Alec Babb singled home Featherstone one batter later to give Oglethorpe their first lead of the game. Sophomore first baseman George Krivsky came to the plate with two outs and laced a double to right field, scoring both Babb and Keane and the Petrels a 5-2 lead they would not relinquish.

Senior right-hander Kyle Blakeney picked up the win in relief, throwing three shutout innings without allowing a hit and striking out four Colonel hitters.

The Colonels again jumped out to a lead in the nightcap, scoring single runs in each of the first three innings and then adding a couple more in the fourth. The Petrels again came back, though. Freshman third baseman Matthew Gill led the inning off with a double and sophomore designated hitter Wyatt Lee followed with a triple, making it 5-1. Bryant came up next and drove Lee home with a groundout, cutting the Centre lead to 5-2. In the seventh, Bryant singled and Keane walked, then the pair moved up a base each on a passed ball. Junior center fielder Will Arnold followed with an RBI single up the middle, scoring both and cutting the deficit to just a single run. The Petrels couldn't advance another baserunner into scoring position, though, and the Colonels held on for the 5-4 win.

Arnold went 3-for-5 with the two RBIs and a stolen base to lead the team. Junior lefty Tyler Schlegel suffered the loss, allowing three runs on five hits over three innings in his fourth start of the season.

The same two teams will be back at Sunday from Danville, with first pitch scheduled for noon.
