SEWANEE, Tenn. - The University of the South baseball team dropped a Saturday doubleheader to the Scots of Covenant College, 13-4 and 9-3, from Montgomery Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 1
-After being no-hit on Friday, Covenant's bats came to life in Saturday's doubleheader. However, after a groundout, a hit-by-pitch and a free pass to put runners at second and third, the Scots' first hit came off a Brooks DuBose ground-rule double for two runs.

-Tyler Moore followed with a double of his own to make it a 3-0 affair before the Tigers went the bat racks.

-The Tigers did tack a run in the second thanks to a Tyler Dunbar RBI single, but the visitors put the game away with seven runs between the fourth and fifth innings.

-Sewanee added two runs in the fifth thanks to back-to-back RBI hits by Jake Woolard and Jack Roode. In the seventh, Jack Galanek posted the fourth run in the game for Sewanee thanks to a Carter Huffman's pinch-hit double.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 2
-Similar to game one, Covenant scored early and often, leading 6-0 after two innings and 8-0 after six.

-Sewanee avoided the shutout thanks to a bases-loaded free pass by Jake Woolard.

-In the eighth, Mac Gortney posted a two-bagger to score Wesley House and Roode.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Jack Roode recorded three hits in the twinbill, including a 2-for-5 day at the plate in the nightcap.

-Tyler Dunbar recorded two hits in game one.

-Hayden Swisher (0-1) suffered the loss in the opening game. Justin Lavender tossed three innings in relief to limit the bleeding for Sewanee, allowing three hits and two earned runs.

-In the nightcap, Cy Spencer (0-1) pitched two innings and suffered the loss. However, Hampton Long and Holden Shell punched out four batters each in relief.

COVENANT KEY STATISTICS
-Lewis Saunders went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate and scored all four times in game two. On the day, he recorded five hits and scored six runs.

-Alex Gonzalez recorded a multi-home run game in game one and posted four hits and runs each with three RBI in the doubleheader.

-Nick Pettit (3-1) earned the win for Covenant in the opener, allowing three earned over six innings and striking out five.

-Zach Tolleson (2-0) allied one hit in six innings to secure the win in the nightcap.
