Callaghan Earns Second Career D3baseball.com Team of the Week Honor

ITHACA, N.Y. – For the second time in his career, senior Garrett Callaghan of the Ithaca College baseball team has been named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week, which was announced on March 30.

Callaghan, also the Liberty League Player of the Week for the second straight week, went 7-for-13 (.538) over three games last week with three home runs, nine RBI, four runs scored, two doubles, one triple and two walks. Callaghan began the week with a 1-for-4 afternoon against Alfred State, with his one hit coming as a game-winning solo home run. Over the weekend against Rochester, he opened the doubleheader with a 2-for-5 afternoon with five RBI, a double and home run. Callaghan concluded the week by hitting for the cycle against U of R and added three more RBI.

The Franklin Park, N.J. native was named to the Team of the Week at the end of February last spring as he hit .700 (7-for-10) in two games with six runs scored, five RBI, three doubles, two stolen bases and a home run.

Callaghan is now the 11th Bomber overall to be named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week, continuing a string of six consecutive seasons in which one player earns the honor. He is also just the second Bomber to earn the distinction more than once (Colby Gee – 2012 and 2013).

Through six games this season, Callaghan is hitting .577 with (15-for-26) with three home runs, 13 RBI, nine runs scored, four doubles and two triples. He is currently slugging 1.231, to go along with a .621 on-base percentage.

He ranks seventh in the country in RBI per game, seventh in batting average (of player's with more than 20 at bats) and 10th in slugging percentage.
