A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta baseball team opened SUNYAC action with a sweep of Plattsburgh Tuesday afternoon at Red Dragon Baseball Field with scores of 11-2 and 5-4. The Red Dragons are now 7-1 on the year while the Cardinals fell to 0-4.

The Inside Story
In the first game, Oneonta rode the back of sophomore outfielder Lian Kaseta, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI including a pair of homeruns. The Red Dragons got the scoring started in the bottom of the first with two runs. Senior James Ceparano put Oneonta on the board with an RBI single to right, scoring Sean McGlynn. With runners on first and third, the Oneonta coaching staff dialed up a double steal as Ceparano sprinted home on the throw down to second base.

Oneonta made it 3-0 when Liam Kaseta belted a solo homerun to center for his first collegiate long ball. After Michael Sabatine followed with a triple to left, Sean McGlynn gave Oneonta a 4-0 lead with an RBI double. The Red Dragons broke the game open with six runs in the bottom of the third. Kaseta capped off the inning with a grand slam. Patrick McGee and James Ceparano also drove in runs for Oneonta in the inning.

Sophomore southpaw Sean Liquori earned his second win of the season after allowing just two hits in five innings of work. Joe Ottaviano closed out the game in the ninth for Oneonta with a pair of strikeouts, needing just 11 pitches (all strikes).

In the nightcap, Oneonta jumped in front with three runs in the bottom of the second. Jake Barrett drove in the first run of the game when he doubled in Sean Liquori with a shot into the left centerfield gap. After Barrett slid over to third on a single, Liam Kaseta plated his sixth run of the day with a sacrifice fly to put the hosts up 2-0. Michael Sabatine capped off the inning with an RBI single, scoring Patrick McGee with Oneonta's third run.

Plattsburgh cut the deficit to 3-1 when they tallied an unearned run in the top of the third. Oneonta gave themselves some much needed breathing room with two more runs in the bottom of the fifth. With runners on first and second, Jake Barrett put down a perfect bunt to third. The attempt to get Barrett out got away from the first baseman, allowing James Zupo to scamper home. Matthew McAllister then grounded into a fielder's choice, plating Sean Liquori to make the score 5-1.

Plattsburgh made things interesting in the top of the seventh. After the first two Cardinals reached base to start the inning, Christian Ott cut the Oneonta lead to 5-2 with an RBI single to center. Oneonta pitcher Michael Losak was able to strikeout the next two batters before loading the bases on an Andrew Veit walk. Plattsburgh's Andrew Roman appeared to ground out to end the game, but the throw to first skipped away, allowing two more runs to score. With runners on the corners, Plattsburgh attempted to tie the game on a double steal, but Oneonta catcher Sean McGlynn tagged out Veit at the plate to end the game.

Matthew Petrossi improved his record to 2-0 on the year after allowing just two hits in four and two-thirds innings of work while striking out four. Michael Losak garnered his third save of the season after allowing one earned run in two and a third innings while striking out four Cardinals.
