Kean Sweeps NJCU in NJAC Action

Union, N.J. (4/29/21) – The Kean University baseball team swept New Jersey City University in NJAC action on Thursday by the finals of 12-0 and 16-2.

Game One – Kean 12, NJCU 0

Frank LoGiudice and Frank Dente IV combined on the shutout as the two combined to allow just eight hits in the opener.  Neither issued a walk with LoGiudice (2-1) recording five strikeouts.

Kean (15-10, 10-6 NJAC) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first as Michael Medvetz, Zachary Marzano, Chris Ciaccio and Kyle Harrington all recorded single RBI.  Marzano and Harrington each did it with doubles.

After tacking on a single run in the fourth on a Christian Pellone RBI double, the Cougars put the game out of reach with seven runs between the sixth and eighth innings.

Brandon Rivera had three hits for NJCU (4-22, 2-14 NJAC).

Game Two – Kean 16, NJCU 2

Kean jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead after two frames.  For the nightcap the Cougars pounded out 17 total hits, including 10 extra base hits (seven doubles, two triples, one homerun).  Highlighting the action was a grand slam off the bat of Phil Marcantonio, his sixth homer of the season.

Nolan Rowan (2-0) earned the win after tossing five shutout innings allowing just one hit.  He struck out seven and walked three.  Bruce Weyand (1) earned a save after tossing four innings of one hit ball.  He allowed one earned run and four walks, he fanned four.

Rivera had one of NJCU's two hits, a triple.

For the Cougars, Ciaccio was 2-for-3 with three RBI while Pellone and Marzano combined for four hits, seven runs scored, six walks and two RBI.

Kean closes out the regular season on Saturday when they host The College of New Jersey.
