DAVENPORT, FL – Penn State Abington scored four runs in the decisive sixth inning and held on at the end for a 9-7 triumph over Concordia University Chicago on the team's Spring Break trip.

The win improved the Nittany Lions to 4-2 overall, including a 2-0 mark in Florida. The Cougars dropped to 2-3.

Concordia Chicago scored two runs in the third inning and one more in the fourth to tie the game at 5-5. It stayed that way until the bottom of the sixth when Penn State Abington struck for four runs on three hits and three Cougar errors.

Josh Baar opened the stanza by hitting a solo home run that put the Nittany Lions ahead for good. Later in the inning, Ryan McCarty drove in a run with a double and Zach Morales followed with a ground out that plated one for an 8-5 lead. Tim Petrucelli knocked in the final tally of the inning with an RBI single.

Concordia Chicago made things interesting in the top of the ninth as it loaded the bases with one out. A walk brought in one run while a sacrifice fly made it 9-7 with two outs and two on. Reliever Montana Milward got the last batter to ground out to second and the Nittany Lions had their fourth win of the year.


Penn State Abington opened the game by scoring three times in the first on an error and then a two-run single by Anthony Bencardino. After the Cougars made it 3-2, the Nittany Lions countered with two in the bottom of the second as Zach Morales knocked one in on a fielder's choice with another scoring on an error on the same play.

McCarty (4-for-5) and Petrucelli (3-for-4) combined for seven on Penn State's 12 hits. Bencardino went 2-for-4 and knocked in two while Andrew Lastowka scored two times. Jaden Himmelreich went eight-plus innings and permitted five earned runs, en route to the win. Milward picked up his first save of the year.
