Keystone Drops 15-13 Decision to La Roche

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - Vince Montone (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Township) and Julio Acosta (Elizabeth, N.J./Hudson Catholic) combined for six RBI for Keystone on Wednesday but the Giants fell to La Roche University 15-13 on a walk-off homer in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.

With the defeat, Keystone drops to 2-6 and will take on Marymount University (10-0) tomorrow at 9:45 a.m. The Redhawks improve to 2-3 and will face St. John Fisher College (1-3) on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.

Keystone jumped out to a 10-3 lead in the fifth inning capped off by a three-run blast by Montone before La Roche battled back to knot the contest at 10-10 in the seventh. 

Trailing 12-10, the Giants regained the lead thanks to a two-run triple by JD Barrett (Moosic, Pa./Dallas) and an RBI single by Acosta to go ahead 13-12. In the bottom of the ninth, Nathan Stutz blasted the game-winning three-run walk-off homer to left, giving La Roche the 15-13 win. Stutz finished the game 4-for-6 with eight RBI.

Montone finished the day 2-for-4 with two runs, a double, and the three-run shot in the fifth. Acosta went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer in the second. Barrett enjoyed a 2-for-4 outing with two runs, two RBI, and two walks while Derrick Cancel (Orlando, Fla./Chancery Charter) went collected two RBI, two walks, and two runs scored.

RJ Gouldsbury (Throop, Pa./Mid Valley) cracked a run-scoring double to left in the second while Jason Thomas (Miami, Fla./Barbara Goleman) and Devin Reed (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton Area) both went 2-for-4. The Giants enjoyed 14 hits on the day and had five players with two hits.

On the mound, Patrick Adamski (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) earned the start while Logan Lixie (Tamarac, Fla./J.P. Taravella)Ross Zanghi (Scranton, Pa./Scranton)Nick Gravel (Sidney, N.Y./Sidney), and Nick Termini (Clark Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) all appeared in relief.
