Beavers Secure a 1-0 Victory Over Alvernia

Fort Myers, FL – The Bluffton University baseball team secured a split with Alvernia in the sunshine state as they secured a 1-0 victory on March 11th. The Beavers improved to 2-6 on the season while the Golden Wolves fell to 4-8-1.

In the top of the eighth, Nick Diana (Batavia/West Clermont) knocked a single and moved into scoring position on a throwing error by Alvernia's short stop. Jake Baumgartner (Toledo/Start) continued his hot streak with a sacrifice fly to center field that plated Diana and secured the 1-0 Beaver victory.

Starting on the mound for Bluffton was Carson Curnutte (Hilliard/Hilliard Davidson), throwing six innings of seven hit and three strikeout ball. Jacob Boelkens (Millbury/Lake) picked up the win with 2.1 innings of one hit relief. Seth Evans (Ada/OSU-Lima) secured the save in his 0.2 innings of no-hit closing. Baumgartner was the offensive fire again, going 1-for-2 with his game winning RBI.

The Beavers finish off their spring break trip on March 12th when they face Rockford University. First pitch is scheduled for 9 a.m. at the Lee County PDC. Go Beavers!
