Allegheny powers past No. 11 Baldwin Wallace

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny baseball team slugged past one of the top teams in Division III baseball with an 11-5 victory against No. 11 Baldwin Wallace on Tuesday (March 22) in a nonconference matchup.

The Gators stunned the Yellow Jackets with three runs in the opening frame. Ben Kosbie (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy) drove in the first run and was followed by a Brady Nolin (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) two-run single to knock out Baldwin Wallace's starter.

Allegheny continued to mash the ball and put together eight runs via three homers as Tyson Bryant-Dawson (Oakland, Calif./Manvel (Texas)), Brett Heckert (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) and Ryan Dougherty (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) went yard. Bryant-Dawson hit a grand slam in the second inning as part of a three-hit performance. Meanwhile, Dougherty and Heckert added in multi-hit efforts with the former providing a triple along with a diving catch. 

Another offensive contributor was Jacob Budnar (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) who had a pair of walks and runs scored. He picked up his 20th consecutive career stolen base to begin his Allegheny career which dated back to his freshman year.

As for Allegheny's pitching, Bobby Kusinsky (Harrison City, Pa./Penn-Trafford) bridged the gap to the bullpen with 5.2 innings to earn his fourth win. After the big righty's outing, Joseph Raleigh (Clermont, Fla./East Ridge) and Preston Pierce (Camano Island, Wash./Stanwood) combined for 3.1 scoreless innings of two-hit ball.

Allegheny travels to La Roche this Saturday, March 26. First pitch is scheduled for a 12 p.m. start.
