DAVENPORT, Fla. – The St. Olaf College baseball team extended its winning streak to four games by sweeping Hamilton College by scores of 2-1 and 3-1 in a pair of low-scoring games on Friday at Northeast Regional Park.

In the first meetings between the two programs since 2009, St. Olaf (4-2) held Hamilton (8-7) a first-inning run in each game and generated just enough offense to win both games. The Oles scratched across single runs in the second and fifth to take the opener and got six innings of one-run ball from first year Jacob Fickenscher in his first collegiate start in game two.

Sophomore Joey Glampe homered for the second time in as many days in game two, providing all the offense St. Olaf would need with a three-run home run in the third inning. Fellow sophomore Will Wamre earned the save in both games for the first two saves of his collegiate career.

Fifth-year senior Hunter Barber, sophomore Derek Hansen, and Wamre pitched St. Olaf to a win in the opener, holding Hamilton scoreless after the first inning. Offensively, the Oles manufactured runs in the second and fifth to win their third-straight game.

The Continentals got a first-inning run off Barber before the fifth-year senior settled in and got through four innings, allowing one run on six hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Hansen collected his first collegiate win by tossing scoreless innings in the fifth and sixth before Wamre earned his first-career save by pitching around a leadoff double in the seventh.

Hamilton got on the board first in the top of the first when Phil Bernstein led off the game with a single, stole second and third, and scored on a two-out infield single by Greg Kopp. St. Olaf got the run back in the bottom of the second on a fielder's choice ground out by first year Evan Hammonds that brought in junior Lucas Ammons. Ammons and sophomores Brian Nevin and Harald Borg hit consecutive one-out singles to load the bases for Hammonds.

The score remained even at 1-1 until the Oles generated the eventual game-winning run. After the first two batters were retired, Glampe reached on an infield single and fifth-year senior Matthew Muller followed with a single to right. With sophomore Sean Goldman at the plate, Muller got caught off first base in a run down but stayed alive long enough to allow Glampe to sprint home while Muller got back to first safely.

Hamilton mounted a scoring threat in the top of the six with runners on second and third and two outs, but Hansen got Bernstein to ground out to end the frame. Wamre allowed a leadoff double to start the top of the seventh before retiring the next three hitters to close out the win.

Ammons led the way offensive for St. Olaf by going 3-for-3 with a run scored for the first three-hit game of his collegiate career. Glampe and Nevin had two hits apiece.

After yielding a run in the first, Fickenscher settled in and earned his first-career win by yielding just one run on five hits in six innings while striking out five and not walking a batter. The first year retired the final six batters he faced before turning the ball over to Wamre in the seventh.

Like in game one, Hamilton put a run on the board in the first when Bernstein led off with a double and scored on a two-out double by Matt Kinne. St. Olaf got a double from Muller to start the second but left two runners on base in the inning.

In the third, sophomores Jack Fochtman and Sam Lavin drew walks before Glampe brought them both in with the sixth home run of his career. The long ball was one just four hits in the game for the Oles.

After giving up a leadoff double to start the bottom of the fifth, Fickenscher retired the final six batters he faced before exiting the game after six innings. The Continentals got the tying run to the plate after a one-out single in the bottom of the seventh before Wamre slammed the door.

St. Olaf plays two nine-inning games on Saturday, March 26, taking on Augustana College (Ill.) at 9:45 a.m. CDT and Middlebury College at 4:30 p.m. CDT.
