KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — Matt Vaccaro (Fayetteville, N.Y. / Fayetteville-Manlius) single to score Tyler Lewandowski (Milltown, N.J. / Spotswood) from second in the bottom of the ninth as Keuka College defeated SUNY Poly 4-3 in walkoff fashion at Kuhl Field on Tuesday afternoon.

Lewandowski singled earlier that inning to tie the game at 3-3 for Keuka College (7-8-1, 1-2-1 Empire 8). Both Vaccaro and Lewandowski had multi-hit games for Keuka in support of Jared Beckley (Windsor, N.Y. / Windsor). The sophomore threw 6.1 innings of scoreless relief to earn the win.

Keuka College 4 vs. SUNY Poly 3

SUNY Poly struck first as a leadoff hit batter turned into a run for the Wildcats. Damage could have been worse in the second as SUNY Poly loaded the bases, but starting pitcher Anthony Laurinitis (Philadelphia, Pa. / Father Judge) got a strikeout and flyout to end the inning.

The Wildcats added to their lead with two more in the third to make it 3-0.

Nick Brown (Liverpool, N.Y. / Liverpool) led off the bottom of the fourth by being hit by the pitch. Instead of moving him around in pieces, like what SUNY Poly did in the first, Keuka decided to score Brown in a loud way. That came from the bat of Josh Tryon (Elmira, N.Y. / Thomas A. Edison) as he connected and sent a ball over the left centerfield fence. The first career homer of Tryon cut the margin to one, 3-2.

Beckley would keep SUNY Poly off balance the rest of the game. He allowed only three hits over the final five innings as the game would go to the bottom of the ninth with Keuka trailing 3-2.

RJ Murphy (Syracuse, N.Y. / West Genesee) led off the bottom of the ninth with a walk. Shane Daley (Elma, N.Y. / Iroquois) then moved him over with a pinch-hit sacrifice bunt. Murphy scored from second as Tyler Lewandowski singled in the hole between third and short. Jimmy Griffin (Syracuse, N.Y. / East Syracuse-Minoa) was next up and got hit by the pitch, moving Lewandowski to second. That brought Matt Vaccaro up to bat. The lefty spun on a pitch and hit a line drive over a leaping first baseman and into right field allowing Lewandowski to score and giving the Wolves the 4-3 victory.

KC Notes:

  • Keuka College won their seventh straight game over SUNY Poly. The Wolves are now 13-15 all-time against the Wildcats
  • Joining Lewandowski and Vaccaro with multi-hit games were Ryan Seales (Saratoga Springs, N.Y. / Saratoga Springs) and Josh Tryon. The four accounted for all of Keuka's hits
  • In his last three games played, Shane Daley has had 11 plate appearances and laid down six sacrifice bunts
