More news about: Hope

It was a hit parade propelling the Hope College baseball team to a 14-3 victory against Alma College on Monday in the home opener at Boeve Stadium.

The Flying Dutchmen capitalized on 11 hits, including two home runs, and nine hit batsmen to secure a series victory against the Scots.

Twenty-nine different Hope batters reached base, including senior shortstop Brant Kym and senior center fielder Evan Maday, who each blasted solo homers.

The Flying Dutchmen improved to 11-6 overall and evened their MIAA record at 2-2.

Hope and Alma met for the first time since April 2 when they split a doubleheader at Alma.

Kym (Libertyville, Illinois / Libertyville), pictured right, went 3-for-5 with a team-leading four RBIs. His three-run double in the second inning extended the Flying Dutchmen's lead to 4-0.

In the sixth, Kym hit his first home run of the season and the sixth of his career. The blast came two batters after Maday (Grand Rapids, Michigan / East Kentwood)  homered for the second time this season and the 14th time in his career.

It was Maday's 197th career hit. He holds the team record for career hits.

Seven different Flying Dutchmen recorded seven RBIs. Rightfielder Kainan Bayn (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland East) and third baseman Al Money (Midland, Michigan / Midland) had two RBIs apiece.

The run support helped make starter Graham O'Gorman, pictured, a winner in his second career starter.

O'Gorman (Champaign, Illinois / Champaign Central) scattered three hits and two runs over six innings. The sophomore right-hander struck out two and walked two.

Hope's next game is Wednesday, April 13, at 4 p.m. against visiting Kalamazoo College at Boeve Stadium.
