WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- A seven-run third inning allowed the Washington & Jefferson baseball team to gain an early lead and complete the Presidents' Athletic Conference series sweep of Waynesburg University. The 10-1 win over Waynesburg University on Wednesday followed Sunday's 15-1 and 11-1 victories as W&J completed the three-game season sweep of the Yellow Jackets.

The Presidents have won 15 straight games over the Yellow Jackets dating back to the start of the 2017 season. That is the longest active winning streak for W&J over any PAC opponent.

W&J has completed three-game series sweeps of Waynesburg, Bethany and Chatham this season. The Presidents 12th straight win improves the Red and Black to 18-6 overall and 11-0 in the PAC while Waynesburg falls to 7-16 overall and 3-8 in the league.

The Presidents were aided throughout the series by Waynesburg's ineffectiveness on the mound. The Yellow Jackets issued 15 walks in the series, which included eight free passes Wednesday.

After two scoreless innings, W&J broke it open in the top of the third inning. A single by Nate Rush (Wheeling, W.VA./The Linsly School) and a walk to Peter Kalinski (Washington, D.C./Saint John's College) set Evan Sante(Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) up for a two-run single down the left field line. Joe Lehner (Painesville, Ohio/Lake Catholic) then recorded the next big hit of the inning for the Presidents. His two-run double to left center scored Scout Zaas(Powell, Ohio/Wellington School) and Roman Samson (Tampa, Fla./Berkley Prep), who reached base via the walk.

Jacob LaDuca (Clarence, N.Y./Canisius) recorded the biggest hit of the game, a two-run triple to right center, to make the W&J lead 6-0. LaDuca then scored on a throwing error by the Waynesburg catcher for the inning's seventh run.

In the sixth inning, Rush led off the sixth inning with a single and eventually came around to score when Zaas was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. A fielders choice extended the W&J lead to 9-1.

In the game's final frame, Dan Beistel (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield) slapped an RBI single through the right side to score Conner Helm (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional), who had doubled to lead off the ninth.

Rush and Sante recorded multi-hit games for the Presidents.

Dante DiMatteo (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) started and worked 3.0 innings for the Presidents to earn the victory in a bullpen game. DiMatteo recorded three strikeouts and issued just one walk. Cameron Hayman (Windsor, Calif./Windsor) tossed a scoreless 2.1 innings of relief for W&J.

W&J is in action for the third time in as many days on Thursday, April 14 when they travel to Geneva College. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.
