LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Junior captain Ryan Boyce (Suffolk) and sophomore Lucas Burnette (Hurt) each had an RBI, but Hampden-Sydney College dropped an 11-2 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) baseball decision on the road at nationally-ranked No. 7 the University of Lynchburg on Thursday afternoon in Lynchburg. Freshman Justin Reynolds (Virginia Beach) took the pitching setback for the visiting Tigers (20-15, 10-8 ODAC) against the league-leading Hornets (31-7, 15-3 ODAC).

H-SC scored two runs on three hits with two errors … scoring one run each in the seventh and eighth innings. Lynchburg, ranked seventh in this week's Collegiate Baseball/ABCA Division III Poll, scored 11 runs on 12 hits with no errors … scoring four runs in the first inning, one run in the second, two runs in the fourth, three runs in the sixth and one run in the eighth.

In the seventh, senior Ethan Badin (Richmond) (1-4) opened the frame with a single to left field—the first hit of the game for the Garnet & Grey—advanced to third on a single to right field by sophomore Tillman Butler (Culpeper) (1-3), and scored on a ground ball RBI off the bat of Boyce (RBI).

In the eighth, senior Mark Evans (Yorktown) (1-3) doubled to begin the at-bat, advanced to third on a ground ball, and scored via a sacrifice fly RBI to center field by Burnette (RBI).

Reynolds (2-4) started and pitched the first 3.0-plus innings, allowing six hits and seven runs, all earned, with two strikeouts and two walks. Freshman Lance Tate (Stanardsville) tossed a scoreless inning, allowing one hit with no strikeouts and no walks. Sophomore Jack Bourdon (Madison) also tossed a scoreless inning, yielding no hits with two strikeouts and no walks. Freshman Dylan Robbins (Mechanicsville) pitched 1.0 inning, allowing three hits and three runs, all earned, with no strikeouts and two walks. Junior Davis Ferguson (Rocky Mount) tossed 1.1 innings, allowing two hits and one run, earned, with one strikeout and no walks. Senior Jason Covaney (Williamsburg) recorded the final two outs, yielding no hits with one strikeout and no walks.

H-SC will host Shenandoah University in ODAC action to complete the regular season on Saturday, April 30, a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. on Yank Bernier Field at the Ty Cobb Ballpark - Wurdeman Stadium. It will be Senior Day for the Tigers as the program's 10 seniors will be recognized in a special ceremony taking place between the two games on Saturday.
