CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The 10th-ranked Salisbury University baseball team closed out the road portion of its regular season in style, pounding the DeSales Bulldogs, 14-2, on Tuesday afternoon at Weiland Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Bulldogs drew first blood in the first Liam Kile led off the first inning with a single and scored three batters later on a Gavin Zavorski double to make it 1-0.
  • The Sea Gulls wasted no time grabbing the lead right back. Sky Rahill doubled to lead off, then Jacob Ference crushed a two-run homer to left, his first of the year, putting SU on top 2-1.
  • In the third, Kavi Caster led off with a walk, took second on a wild pitch and scored on back-to-back flyballs. Rahill brought Caster home with a sac fly that made it 3-1.
  • Rahill sparked another rally in the sixth, leading off with a base hit and stealing second. Ference advanced Rahill to third with a sac bunt, and two batters later Trent Saunders plated him with a bunt single that boosted the lead to 4-1.
  • Salisbury blew the doors off in the final three innings, beginning with a four-run seventh. With two on and no out, Stephen Rice snuck an RBI single through the left side. After a walk, Ference pulled a two-run double down the left field line, then Scott Cameron followed with a run-scoring single to make it 8-1.
  • In the eighth, Caster worked a one-out walk and took third on a Rice single plus an error. Rahill scored Caster with an RBI groundout, then Ference blasted his second home run of the game, a two-run shot to left to put SU up 11-1.
  • The Sea Gulls plated three more in the ninth on a Patrick Campbell RBI single, Rahill sac fly and Ethan Wentzlaff bases-loaded hit-by-pitch, making it 14-1.
  • Zach Boren doubled home a run in the bottom of the ninth, giving the game its final 14-2 margin.

SALISBURY GAME NOTES

  • Jacob Ference turned in a monster day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two home runs, a double, two runs and six RBIs.
  • Sky Rahill went 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs, three runs scored and a steal.
  • Kavi Caster reached base five times, going 1-for-2 with four walks, three runs and a stolen base.
  • Stephen Rice finished 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Cameron Hyder went 2-for-6 with a double and a run.
  • Xavier Marmol (5-0) shut the Bulldogs down over eight dominant innings, allowing one run on five hits with one walk and three strikeouts over 90 pitches.
  • Brock Hilligoss pitched the ninth inning to finish the job for the Sea Gulls.

DESALES GAME NOTES

  • Gavin Zavorski and Zach Boren each finished with an RBI double to account for the Bulldogs' offense.
  • Justin DeStaso also managed a pinch-hit double and scored a run.
  • Alex Chase (0-2) took the loss after surrendering three runs on five hits in three innings.

  • The Sea Gulls conclude the regular season with a Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) doubleheader against Christopher Newport on Saturday afternoon.

  • On Saturday the Salisbury baseball team will celebrate its seven graduating seniors: infielders Sky Rahill, Trent Saunders and Luke Weddell and pitchers Jimmy Adkins, Mike Hohlfeld, Xavier Marmol and Jaret Price. The Senior Day festivities will take place between games of the doubleheader.
