GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson baseball team dropped a 7-6 decision on the road in 10 innings at Grove City Wednesday evening.

W&J currently sits at 29-8 overall and 22-2 in PAC play. Both of the Presidents' PAC losses have come from extra inning games. Grove City improves to 26-11 overall and 17-7 in the league.

W&J took a 4-1 lead into seventh inning but Grove City rallied back for the victory. The home team scored six of their seven runs over the final four innings of the game.

The Presidents opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the opening inning. A two-run home run hit to left field by Peter Kalinski (Washington, D.C./Saint John's College), his fourth of the season, gave W&J the early lead. The Kalinski home run scored Tyler Horvat (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford), who reached base via a walk to lead off the game.

Following a run by the Wolverines in the bottom of the first, the Presidents would add two more runs in the third inning to extend their lead by a 4-1 margin. Jason Gregovits (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) and Horvat opened up the inning with back-to-back singles before Nate Rush (Wheeling, W.VA./The Linsly School) would drive home Gregovits. Kalinski would then score Horvat with a sacrifice fly to right field.

Grove City evened the score at four with three runs in the bottom of the seventh before taking a 5-4 lead on a wild pitch in the eighth inning.

Logan Scheider (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) and Trevor Dean (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo) recorded singles to put runners on the corners with just one out. Gregovits would plate Connor Helm (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional), who pinch ran for Scheider, to tie the game heading into the bottom of the ninth.

W&J was able to hold the Wolverines in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings. Kalinski was hit by pitch to open up the 10th inning before he advanced to second on a wild pitch. Helm would record the biggest hit of the night, a go-ahead single to right field to plate Kalinski.

Grove City was able to plate a pair of runs to walk it off in the 10th. Bubba Hamilton produced a two-out RBI single with the bases loaded to end the game.

W&J used eight different pitchers in the game. Henry Litman (Marietta, Ga./Walton) got the start on the mound and worked 3.0 innings. He allowed just one unearned run on one hit. Julian Elizondo (Manassas, Va./Osbourn) suffered the loss in relief.

Rush would record the only multi-hit effort as the Presidents were out-hit by a 10-8 margin.

W&J will return back on the road Saturday, May 7 as they travel to New Wilmington, Pa to open their final conference series of the 2022 season. First pitch for the doubleheader is slated for 1 p.m.
