Fetterman Homer Propels Series-Opening Win Over Widener

ANNVILLE, Pa.Jace Fetterman came up big for the Lebanon Valley College baseball team with a three-run home run in the first inning as the top-seeded Dutchmen earned a 9-4 victory over fourth-seeded Widener University in the first game of the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth semifinal series.
 
LVC (27-13) scored three runs in the first inning, three runs in the fifth, and three runs in the seventh. The Pride (21-19) scored one run in the second, fourth, seventh, and ninth innings.

  • Fetterman knocked in the first four runs of the game for the Dutchmen with his big three-run bomb to left-center on a 1-1 pitch in the first and then an RBI double down the left-field line in the fifth.
  • His home run was his seventh of the year putting him in a tie for the team lead.
  • Conor Smith had a big three-hit game and scored a run.
  • Andrew Miles knocked in a run in the fifth on a single to left field. He finished with two hits in the game.
  • Shane Stossel knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly to right field that the Widener second baseman needed to make an over-the-shoulder grab on allowing Fetterman to race home from third.
  • Nico Santoro knocked in two runs with his 62nd hit of the season in the seventh inning.
  • Mike Bulgia had two hits and scored two runs.
  • Kyle Kingsbury struck out eight to earn his sixth win of the year. He pitched six innings and allowed two runs on seven hits and one walk.
  • Brendan Landry pitched 2.2 innings of effective relief and struck out one.
  • Jacob Horton entered the game with two outs in the ninth inning and the bases loaded. He got the final batter to fly out to left earning his third save of the year.

Who's Next
LVC and Widener will conclude the series on Saturday afternoon back at McGill Field. Game two is scheduled for 12 p.m. in Annville with the if-necessary game to follow. The Dutchmen need just one win to advance to next weekend's Championship series.
