The No. 7 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team wrapped up at least a share of its fifth consecutive Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season championship and 21st in program history Friday with a pair of wins at UW-Platteville.

The Warhawks (31-6 overall, 23-3 WIAC) extended their active win streak to 16 games with a 4-1 victory in Game 1 and a 16-3 triumph in seven innings in the nightcap.

In the first game, Westin Muir (Highlands Ranch, Colo./St. Charles North (Ill.)) and Cade Berendt (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) combined to allow five hits with eight strikeouts and stranded 11 Pioneer baserunners in the contest.

UW-Whitewater scored in its first at-bat and its last at-bat to deliver offense to back Muir and Berendt.

In the top of the first, the Warhawks took advantage of a pair of walks and one hit-by-pitch. Centerfielder Zach Campbell (Burlington, Wis./Burlington) smacked a two-out, two-run double to left field to give UW-W the lead.

UW-Platteville (12-19, 10-14) tallied one run in the bottom of the fourth and had the bases loaded with one out, but Muir stranded the runners with back-to-back strikeouts to end the frame.

The two teams came up empty offensively until the top of the ninth, when catcher Ryan Norton (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) hit a sacrifice fly and shortstop Dylan Rost (Granger, Ind./Elkhart) knocked a one-out, run-scoring single to right center to increase the lead to three.

Muir, who pitched the first seven innings, earned the win to improve to 9-1 on the season, while Berendt collected his second save despite the tying run coming to the plate in the bottom of the ninth.

Third baseman Matt Korman (Waterford, Wis./Waterford Union) reached base three times with two hits and one walk. Designated hitter Sam Paden (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) and second baseman Sam Vomhof (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) drew two walks apiece. Korman, Vomhof, right fielder Jacob DeMeyer (Harshaw, Wis./Rhinelander) and left fielder Matt Scolan (Downers Grove, Ill./South) each scored one run.

In Game 2, the Warhawks plated 11 runs over the first three innings, including six in the top of the first, to back Kade Lancour (Nekoosa, Wis./Nekoosa), who struck out nine batters over seven innings in the run-rule shortened contest to improve to 8-0.

Campbell hit one of three UW-W homers and finished 3-for-5 with one run scored and four RBIs. Catcher Ryan Norton (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) hit a grand slam and first baseman Nick Paget (New Berlin, Wis./West) collected two hits, including a two-run homer, to go with one walk, four runs scored and two RBIs.

DeMeyer registered two hits, one walk, three runs scored and three RBIs, while Scolan and designated hitter Karsen Rupnow (Ixonia, Wis./Oconomowoc) recorded two hits and two runs scored apiece. Vomhof knocked in two runs and scored one run.

UW-Whitewater concludes its four-game series as well as the regular season Saturday with a doubleheader at UW-Platteville at 12 p.m.
