Cedar Rapids, Iowa (May 8, 2022) - Junior Kyler Corcoran finished 3-for-4 at the plate and drove four runs to set career-highs in both as he helped lead the Buena Vista baseball team to a 7-3 victory over Coe College to complete the series win for the Beavers. The two teams split a DH on Saturday afternoon.
Corcoran finished with three singles, including a big two-run single to center field during a 3-run sixth inning that broke a 3-3 ball game. He put BVU in front 1-0 in the second with an RBI single two right on a 2-2 pitch and later capped the scoring with a run-scoring single in the eighth that went right back up the middle. Drew Taylor was 2-for-4 with a solo home run and three runs scored while Logan Mueller added one hit and a pair of RBI.
BVU jumped out to a 3-1 lead before Coe rallied back with a pair of two-out RBI doubles in the fifth that tied the game at 3-3. The Beavers then came right back with their three-run frame in the sixth and Corcoran drove home the insurance run in the eighth.
Freshman Mark Eddie improved to 4-1 in conference play by picking up the win. The righthander pitched six strong innings, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out a career-high 11 batters. Bradyen Polzein worked the next 1.2 innings before giving way to senior Devon Van Houten who came on to get a strikeout to end the eighth before striking out the side in the ninth.
Buena Vista closes out the regular season at 26-12 overall (18-6 A-R-C) and will be the No. 1 seed in the A-R-C Tournament which begins on Thursday, May 12, inside Veterans Stadium in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. BVU will play the winner of No. 4 seed Luther and No. 5 seed Coe on Thursday evening at 5:00 p.m.
