Dutchmen Baseball Wins Second MAC Commonwealth Championship

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College baseball team won the program's second conference championship with a 12-1 victory over York College of Pennsylvania in the Middle Atlantic Commonwealth Championships series.
 
LVC earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament 20 years after winning the program's first conference title in 2002. The second-seeded Spartans (24-19) won the first game of the day 6-0 before the top-seeded Dutchmen (30-14) came roaring back to win the winner-take-all game three of the series. Kyle Kingsbury was named Tournament MVP after throwing two gems against Widener and York.
 
Game 1
York scored twice in the second inning, twice in the sixth, and twice in the eighth. The Spartans were backed behind a strong pitching performance by AJ Vincenzi to even the championship series at one.
 
Inside the Box Score

  • Ryan Murphy recorded the team's first hit of the game with a single to left in the sixth inning.
  • Nico Santoro singled up the middle later in the inning for the team's second hit.
  • Conor Smith also had a hit in the game for the Dutchmen.
  • Tanner Rock struck out five in 5.1 innings of work.
  • Brendan Landry pitched 2.1 innings and struck out two. Malachi Duka also struck out two in 1.1 innings of work.

Game 2
The Dutchmen broke the game wide open with an 11-run first inning. York scored a run in the sixth, but LVC responded with a run in the eighth to set the final.
 
Inside the Box Score

  • Santoto ripped the first pitch of the first inning just over the wall in left for the first home run of his career to give the Dutchmen a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning he knocked in two runs with a double down the right field line on the first pitch. He finished with two hits, two runs, and three RBIs in five at-bats. Santoro swung at the first pitch in his first four times to the plate.
  • Andrew Miles and Luke Blair hit back-to-back doubles to give LVC a 3-0 lead. Following a pitching change, Murphy made it 5-0 with a double to left.
  • Conor Smith knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly to left and then Bulgia had his second hit of the inning with a run-scoring single to right.
  • Jace Fetterman wrapped up the scoring in the inning with a two-run bomb to left field for his team-leading eighth of the year.
  • Bulgia finished the game with three hits including a run-scoring triple in the eighth. He was a home run shy of the cycle.
  • Santoro, Fetterman, and Miles each had two hits in the game.
  • The Dutchmen hit five doubles, one triple, and two home runs.
  • Shane Stossel earned the win on the mound with a strong six innings of work. He struck out eight and allowed just one run on four hits.
  • Tommy Moore Jr. earned a three-inning save with one strikeout and one hit allowed.

Lebanon Valley will play in the NCAA Tournament next weekend. The Dutchmen will find out who and where they are playing on Monday afternoon during the tournament selection show at 12 p.m. on NCAA.com.
