Webb Leads R-MC Baseball to DH Sweep of UPB

ASHLAND, Va. – Junior Myles Webb (Norfolk, Va./Granby) went 4 for 6 with two runs and one RBI as the Randolph-Macon baseball team swept a season-opening doubleheader from Pitt-Bradford on Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened: Game 1

  • The Yellow Jackets starting the scoring in the bottom of the first as senior Ethan Iannuzzi (Chesterfield, Va./Cosby) belted a one-out homer to left to give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 advantage.
  • R-MC added a run inn the fifth as junior Matt Myers (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) was hit by a pitch, stole second, went to third on a fielder's choice and scored on a base hit by Webb to make it 2-0.
  • The Yellow Jackets put the game with a six-run sixth, highlighted by a two-run single from junior Grayson Bush (Charlottesville, Va./Monticello) as the lead grew to 8-0.
  • Senior Hayden Snelsire (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) hurled five scoreless innings with two hits, four walks and seven strikeouts to earn the victory.
  • Junior Cole Stamm (Irvington, Va./Middlesex) worked the final two frames with no hits, one walk and one punchout to record the save.

How It Happened: Game 2

  • The Panthers plated a run in the top of the first in the nightcap before the Yellow Jackets responded in the bottom of the frame. With two away, junior Hunter Cole (Norfolk, Va./Granby) and Webb had back-to-back singles. Both would score on errors. Senior Carter Johnson (Southampton, Va./Southampton) reached on an error and scored on a single by sophomore Chaz Harvey (Charlottesville, Va./The Miller School), and sophomore Aaron Lautenschlager (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley) reached on an error and scored on a wild pitch as the home team took a 4-1 lead.
  • Harvey smacked his first collegiate homer to left to lead off the fourth as R-MC went up 5-1.
  • UPB added a run in the top of the sixth before the Yellow Jackets responded in the bottom of the inning. Freshman Carter Schmitt (Glen Allen, Va./St. Christopher's) had a leadoff single for his first collegiate hit. He went to second on a groundout and came home on a base hit by Iannuzzi as R-MC led 6-2.
  • The Panthers loaded the bases in the seventh before junior Jacob Lawler (Broad Run, Va./Battlefield) got a pair of fly outs to end the game.
  • Junior Drew Ramos (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette) recorded the win, going 5.1 innings with four hits, two runs, one walk and six strikeouts.
