Kean Bests Brockport, 3-1

Union, N.J. (2/26/23) – The Kean University baseball made it seven in a row with a tidy 3-1 win over SUNY Brockport on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Kean (7-1) plated a single run in the bottom of the first as Nick Houghton singled with one out.  Later with two outs, Phil Marcantonio doubled him home for the game's first run.

The Golden Eagles (0-1) tied things up in the next inning as Zach Eldred lined a sacrifice, scoring Nicholas Pastore who reached via a single and advanced on a Cougar miscue. 

The Cougars took the lead for good in their half of the third as Caleb Rodriguez hit a leadoff single, moved to second on a sacrifice and later scored on a Christian Pellone double.

Kean added insurance in the fifth with a similar results as Kyle Adorno scored on a two out RBI hit from Pellone.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Offensively Pellone was 2-for-4 with two RBI while Rodriguez was 2-for-3 with a run scored.  On the mound, Nolan Rowan and Collin Kiernan combined to allow just five singles on the day.  Rowan (1-0) tossed four innings allowing one unearned run, no walks and one strikeout.  Kiernan (1) earned the save with a three inning performance with one hit, two walks and two strikeouts.
