Mustangs Score 24 Runs in Win Over Mary Baldwin

Owings Mills, Md - On Wednesday afternoon, the Stevenson University baseball team scored 24 runs in a blowout 24-2 win over the Mary Baldwin Fighting Squirrels. 

Stevenson tallied seven runs in the first inning and remained in control for the rest of the game while 12 different Mustangs notched a hit. Seth Hartman captured his first win of the season, coming into the game in the fifth inning. The Mustangs improve to 2-3, putting 40 runs on the board over the past two games. 

At the bottom of the first inning, The Mustangs took two walks and Amani Jones singled to load the bases. The Flying Squirrels walked three more batters, putting the Mustangs up 3-0. Later in the inning, Dylan Scott and Billy McAdam both doubled to score three more runs. 

Starting pitcher Jake Pigeon recorded a groundout, flyout, and strikeout in the top of the third. The junior struck out six, giving up four hits and a walk in his first appearance of the 2023 season. 

The bats fell quiet until the bottom of the fifth where Brandon Perillo scored on a wild pitch after stealing third base. Jones reached on a throwing error by the shortstop, allowing Scott to score. Nick Tamberino and Trevor Smoot both slapped singles into the outfield increasing the Mustang lead, to 13-1. 

Ryan Lassiter opened the bottom of the sixth cracking a single up the middle, later being driven in by McAdam. Jonathan Brandt got in on the action singling to centerfield scoring Hunter Chase who was pinch-running. Three Mustangs reached base on errors with the bases loaded bringing in three more runs. 

McAdam scored thanks to Jack Gitterman walking in the seventh which was followed up by Graham Sears reaching on a fielder's choice which scored Noah JolyHunter Chase later singled threw the left side driving in Sears stretching the advantage 24-2. 

Connor Fox struck out two batters to lock down the win for Stevenson. The game ended after eight inning due to darkness.

The weekend the Mustangs host Marywood on Saturday for a doubleheader on senior day at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. then Eastern Connecticut on Sunday for a single nine-inning game at 12 p.m.
