ASHLAND, Va. – Senior Hayden Snelsire (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) struck out 11 in five scoreless innings in the opener, senior Ethan Iannuzzi (Chesterfield, Va./Cosby) homered twice and knocked in eight, and sophomore Aaron Lautenschlager (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley) went 6 for 7 with five runs and three RBI, as the 23rd-ranked Randolph-Macon baseball team swept a doubleheader from Messiah on Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened: Game 1

  • After being retired in order in each of the first two innings, the Yellow Jackets started the scoring in the third. In his first collegiate start, freshman Nathan Chen (South Riding, Va./Freedom) ripped a one-out triple and scored on a base hit by junior Grayson Bush (Charlottesville, Va./Monticello). After a two-out single by junior Myles Webb (Norfolk, Va./Granby), junior Hunter Cole (Norfolk, Va./Granby) crushed a three-run homer to right, his first long ball of the season, as RMC took a 4-0 lead.
  • Iannuzzi had a grand slam to highlight a nine-run fourth as the Yellow Jackets went up 13-0.
  • Senior Brooks Mazey added a pinch-hit RBI double in the fifth and senior Logan Smith (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) had a run-scoring fielder's choice in the sixth to complete a 15-1 victory.
  • Snelsire retired the first 11 Falcons with eight strikeouts before allowing a single. He did not walk a batter in 5.0 innings with one hit and 11 strikeouts.

How It Happened: Game 2

  • After a scoreless first, RMC erupted for four in the second. Sophomore Chaz Harvey (Charlottesville, Va./The Miller School) had a leadoff double and scored on a single by Lautenschlager. Senior Carter Johnson (Southampton, Va./Southampton) had a sacrifice bunt and reached on an error, moving Lautenschlager to second. Iannuzzi smacked a three-run homer with two away, his second of the day and third of the season, as the Yellow Jackets took a 4-0 lead.
  • Messiah tallied three in the fourth to pull within one before RMC added an insurance run in the sixth. Lautenschlager had a leadoff double and scored on a single by junior Matt Myers (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) to make it 5-3.
  • In the eighth, Lautenschlager had a leadoff single and scored on a two-out base hit by Bush to up the lead to 6-3. Bush stole second, went to third on an error and came home on a single by Iannuzzi to make the final 7-3.
  • Junior Patrick Routsis (Midlothian, Va./St. Christopher's) earned the win in relief, going 1.1 innings with one hit and one strikeout.
  • Junior Cole Stamm (Irvington, Va./Middlesex) recorded the final six outs with no hits or walks and three punchouts to earn his third save.
