WINCHESTER, VA. – Dylan Tierney's (East Greenbush/Columbia) two-run single capped a three-run rally in the top of the ninth inning as nationally 20th-ranked Cortland defeated Susquehanna University, 4-2, during Day 2 of the Shenandoah Mr. V. Memorial Classic Sunday afternoon.

Cortland (5-3) finished 3-0 over the weekend, including wins over Susquehanna (7-3) and the nationally 11th-ranked host Hornets on Saturday.

Trailing 2-1, Cortland started it winning rally with a Dylan Mackenzie (Canandaigua/Canandaigua Academy) leadoff walk and a Mat Bruno (Rye) hit by pitch. Pinch hitter Kameron Hartenstein (Meriden, CT/Maloney) walked to load the bases and a wild pitch allowed pinch runner Hunter Holliday (Camden) to score from third to tie the game. With one out, Zachary Kringdon (Larchmont/Mamaroneck) was intentionally walked to load the bases, and Tierney followed by lining a single up the middle through a drawn-in infield to score Bruno and pinch runner Logan Karwowski (Cicero/Cicero-North Syracuse).

Dylan Beers (Woodbury/Monroe-Woodbury) earned the win after allowing just one hit and no runs and striking out three over the final three and a third innings. Nick Reiser (Nahant, MA/Swampscott) started and gave up two hits in two scoreless frames with one strikeout. Bryan Bernard (Howell, NJ) also tossed two scoreless innings with two hits allowed.

Cortland took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a one-out Matthew Krafft (Cornwall) double, a wild pitch and a Mackenzie sacrifice fly. The Red Dragons had opportunities to increase their lead but grounded into inning-ending double plays in the third, fourth and sixth innings.

Susquehanna took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Kris Morrow and Brock Veit drew back-to-back walks to start the inning. The next two batter were retired, but Michael Mancuso followed with a two-run double to left. Cortland threatened in the eighth, putting two runners on with two outs before being caught trying to steal home on a first-and-third play.

Chris Bonacci (Syracuse/West Genesee) finished 3-for-4 and Bruno was 1-for-2 with a walk for Cortland, which finished with seven hits. Mancuso went 3-for-4 with the two-run double for the River Hawks. Susquehanna starter Tyler Rigot allowed one run on fie hits with no walks and four strikeouts in five and a third innings and Aidan Martin followed him with two and a third innings of one-hit scoreless ball, striking out two and walking one.

Cortland heads to Lexington, S.C., next week to begin a spring break trip that will feature three games versus currently 15th-ranked Marietta March 9-11 and four games versus Case Western Reserve March 12-14, including a doubleheader on the 12th.
