Mustangs Sweep Marywood in Doubleheader, Extend Win Streak to Four

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson Baseball team won both ends of its doubleheader against Marywood University on Sunday afternoon as the team held senior day honoring the 2023 graduating class. 
 
Stevenson was all over Marywood, scoring a combined 18 runs to help them win both games. Mustang's pitching locked down, only allowing three total runs. They now have won four straight and finding themselves above .500 for the first time this season with a record of 4-3.
 
Game One

Stevenson got the scoring started in the bottom of the second inning when graduate student Billy McAdam singled to right center which drove in seniors Trent Smoot and Elliot Schilpp.
 
They would then add three runs in the third thanks to two doubles coming from junior Nick Tamberino and graduate student Tommy Holcomb.  Junior Amani Jones would score off the Tamberino double. Schlipp and senior Trevor Smoot were soon driven in by a Holcomb double.
 
Two more runs were added in the fourth, with one coming off an error by the Marywood third baseman that would allow McAdam to score. The other run came from another double by Tamberino to drive in Jones.
 
Marywood would get a run on the board in the fifth from an RBI single.
 
Stevenson got hot in the fifth scoring four runs. A senior Dylan Scott single allowed Schlipp to score and graduate student Trent Smoot to advance to third. McAdam would then clear the bases with a home run to right field, the second of his career. 
 
Graduate student Sam Downs pitched four scoreless innings and recorded five strikeouts for the Mustangs in game one. His 2023 record improves to 2-0 with 0.69 ERA.
 
Game Two

Stevenson found themselves behind 2-0 after the first half inning of the first thanks to a Marywood double. The Mustangs would answer back with some runs of their own. The first run came from an error by the Marywood third baseman which allowed McAdam to score. Tamberino would then homer to left center driving in Jones and graduate student Jonathan Brandt, the first of his career.
 
Scoring would resume in the sixth when a single from Tamberino would advance Jones to third and drive in Brandt. Senior Trevor Smoot would then bring Jones and Brandt in with a single through the left side, Smoot now has six RBIs on the young season. 
 
Graduate student Matt Reich would earn his first win of the season pitching four innings and recording seven strikeouts.
 
The Mustangs earned their fourth straight win with a 7-2 victory in game two.

The Mustangs will travel to face McDaniel on March 7 at 2:30 p.m. and will open MAC Commonwealth play with a home and home series with Widener, March 10 and 11.
