Auburndale, Fla. (Mar. 7, 2023) - The Buena Vista University baseball team continued their spring break trip with a matchup against St. John Fisher University on Tuesday evening. BVU wins its fourth straight contest in come-from-behind fashion, 13-9.

The game was a rough start for the Beavers early, as they allowed the first three hitters to reach base before allowing a grand slam in what would be just the first four runs of seven that St. John Fisher would score in the first frame.

The Beavers, however, would begin to chip away, scoring in the bottom of the first on a Calvin Harris RBI single and a Jordan Mathewson RBI single in the third. The pair of singles narrowed the deficit to 7-2.

Caden Mathewson singled to right to start the fourth. A Tegan Bock walk and a Joel Garcia single would give the Beavers the bases loaded and no outs. A pair of sac flies from Jordan Mathewson and Drew Taylor pulled them within three runs before the lineup sparked a huge two out rally. Harris smoked an RBI triple to center for his second RBI of the game before scoring on a Grant Oseka single. A pair of walks reloaded the bases setting the stage for Caden Mathewson. Mathewson cleared the bases with a single giving the Beavers their first lead of the game. Harris added on again in the fifth with his third RBI hit of the game. The Beavers would go on to score three more runs, but the Harris hit proved to be all they needed as the bullpen was lights out the rest of the way.

It was another statement game for the Beavers offense, compiling 13 runs on 13 hits. They were led by Harris and Drew Taylor. Harris drove in three runs and scored twice on three hits while Taylor drove in two runs and scored twice on three hits. The performance raised Taylor's team-high batting average to .500. It also marked the eighth time in nine games he has reached safely on a hit and the sixth time with at least one extra base hit. The multi-hit performances from Harris and Taylor were two of five for the Beavers. Caden MathewsonJordan Mathewson, and Grant Oseka all tallied two hits in the contest.

Mason Gehling was tabbed for the start on the mound. He earned a no decision after allowing eight runs across four innings. Brayden Polzien earned the win after pitching the bulk of the innings in relief. The junior allowed one unearned run on three hits and two walks while striking out four in four innings of work. Calvin Harris closed it out for the staff with a scoreless ninth where he allowed one hit and struck out one.

The win also gives BVU head coach Steve Eddie his 499th career victory in his 23 seasons at the helm.
