SALISBURY, Md. – The second-ranked Salisbury University baseball team flexed its arms early and its bats late on the way to a 14-0 shutout victory over the Moravian Greyhounds on Saturday afternoon at Donnie Williams Sea Gull Baseball Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Sea Gulls took a quick lead in the bottom of the first inning. Jacob Ference was plunked with one out, then Kavi Caster beat out an infield single. After a wild pitch to move up the runners, Danny Sheeler rolled into an RBI groundout at second, then Ben Anderson hit a flyball to center that the wind knocked down for an RBI double to put SU up 2-0.
  • In the second, Scott Cameron singled with one out and stole his way to second base. Two batters later Luke Weddell served a two-out RBI single into center to make it 3-0.
  • Anderson led off the fourth with a scorching double to left, then two batters later Cameron bounced a two-sacker down the right field line to score Anderson and increase the lead to 4-0.
  • Jackson Balzan kept the Greyhounds guessing through his seven innings of work. In the top of the sixth Moravian put men on the corners with one out, but Balzan got Paul Croyle to pop out to second to preserve the shutout.
  • In the home sixth, Patrick Campbell ripped a two-out double to left center, then Weddell snuck a grounder through the right side for an RBI single to make it 5-0.
  • Salisbury busted the game open in the bottom of the eighth. With the bases loaded and no out, Dom Frigiola blasted a pinch-hit grand slam to left field to make it 9-0. The next three Sea Gulls all reached to load them up again, and Kavi Caster belted one to right for SU's second grand slam of the inning to make it 13-0.
  • A pinch-hit RBI single from Andrew Kell later in the eighth put SU up 14-0 for the game's final tally.
