Kean Tops Centenary, 14-5

Union, N.J. (3/15/23) – Rookie Tyler Provost led all players with five RBI as the Kean University baseball team topped Centenary University by the final of 14-5 on a windy Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Centenary (7-5) jumped on top quick with a three run first inning.  Provost erased the shutout in the same inning with a two RBI single to cut the deficit to one.  Kean (10-5) tied things up in the third inning as Christian Pellone reached on a leadoff single and came around to score later on a wild pitch.

The Cougars took the lead for good in the fifth as Brandon Johannessen lined a double into the gap in his first game back since May of 2021.  Kean added some cushion in the bottom of the sixth as Provost doubled home Pellone who reached on a double of his own.  Gianni Marano followed with an RBI single and Caleb Rodriguez closed out the scoring in the sixth with a RBI sacrifice.

Kean added three more in the seventh and four in the eighth to blow the game open. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Sean DuBois (1-2) collected his first win after tossing five innings allowing three runs and six hits.  Nick Rappa collected a save after working four innings of relief.

Offensively Provost was 3-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored while Phil Marcantonio was 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored, two walks and two RBI.  Pellone registered two hits and scored four times.  Marano recorded three hits and three RBI.

Brandon Smith finished with two RBI for Centenary in the loss.
