Hood extends win streak to five against Juniata 14-6

At the Plate

  • Richard Kershow led the Blazers at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three RBIs, a double, two runs and a stolen base. 

  • Matthew Stout ended the game 3-for-5 with two RBIs, a triple and scored three times. 

  • Austin Rhue had an RBI triple for one of his two hits. The first-year student also recorded two stolen bases and scored three times. 

  • Tyler Schwarzman finished with two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. 

On the Mound

  • Declan Sullivan started the game for the Blazers and threw three complete innings, allowing three runs one hit. The first-year student walked two and struck out two.  

  • Mason Sawyers allowed only hit in two scoreless innings and had two strikeouts. 

  • Aaron Heller tossed a scoreless sixth inning with one strikeout. 

  • Cole Whitton gave up three runs on three hits in a third of an inning. 

  • Scott Ash and Kevin Nelson, Jr finished the final 2.2 innings, allowing no hits or runs with two strikeouts. 

How it Happened

  • Juniata got on the board in the first inning, as the first three runners all reached base safely on two walks and a hit-by-pitch. Joey Allegrini followed with an RBI fielder's choice to drive  in Dakotah Snyder. Joey Woodrow knocked  in Corey Daniels on a sacrifice fly to right field for a two-run lead. Allegrini later scored on a balk by Sullivan to push the Eagles ahead 3-0 early. 

  • Stout had a two-out single up the middle to in the bottom of the first. Following a Cameron Day walk, Alex Jenkins also singled up the middle to bring in Stout to cut Juniata's lead to 3-1. 

  • The Blazers rallied with two outs again in the second inning when Jack Patterson was hit by a pitch. He scored on a Rhue triple down the right field line for Hood's second run of the game. Rhue scored on a Schwarzman single up the middle to tie the game at 3-3. Back-to-back RBI singles by Kershow and Stout gave Hood its first lead of the game. . Day and Stout executed a double steal on first and third as Stout came home for a 6-3 lead.. 

  • The Blazers put the game out of reach in the third inning. Patterson started with a  walk and stolen base. He later scored on a Rhue single up the middle for a 7-3 lead. Rhue stole second and third and scored on an error for a five-run lead. Stout added an RBI triple to left and scored on a single by Day  to give the Blazers a commanding 10-3 lead. 

  • Hood scored three more runs in the fourth inning, as Reyna scored on a sacrifice fly by Schwarzman. Kershow doubled down the left field line to bring in Rhue and Patterson who both reached base earlier in the inning to make it 13-3. 

  • Schwarzman scored on an error by Michael Warren to give Hood its biggest lead of the game, 14-3, in the sixth inning. 

  • The Eagles added three runs in the seventh inning as Warren singled to start the inning. Chatram Persaud singled to the pitcher to put runners on the corners. Warren scored on an error and a. bases-loaded single by Evan Mock through the left side drove home Persaud and Snyder. 

For the Opponent 

  • Mock led the Eagles with two RBIs.

  • Woodrow had a double and an RBI.

  • Allegrini recorded an RBI in the game.

  • Snyder scored twice and walked twice. 

Notes

  • The Blazers' 10-3 record is their best start since 2018 when Hood started the season 14-0.  

  • Juniata dipped to 2-8.
