CORTLAND, N.Y. – Mitchell Kelly (Webster/Webster Thomas) hit the game-winning homer to lead off the bottom of the ninth as Cortland defeated visiting Cobleskill, 8-7, in baseball non-league action.

Cortland (8-7) led 6-1 after seven innings before the Cobleskill (4-8) scored six runs to take the lead in the top of the eighth. The Red Dragons rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth on a two-out Dylan Tierney (East Greenbush/Columbia) RBI single and won the game when Kelly hit his second home run of the season over the fence in left center.

Cortland finished the game with 19 hits. Dylan Mackenzie (Canandaigua/Canandaigua Academy) went 4-for-5 with an RBI, Chris Bonacci (Syracuse/West Genesee) was 2-for-2 with a hit-by-pitch and three runs scored and Kameron Hartenstein (Meriden, CT/Maloney) finished 2-for-2. Zachary Kringdon (Larchmont/Mamaroneck) was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI and Nick Chemotti (Warners/West Genesee) finished 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Chris Champlin finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, Dylan Pohl went 2-for-4 and David Flora was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI for the Fighting Tigers.

Cortland used nine pitchers in the game. Grant Biederman (Huntington Station/Walt Whitman), the last of those nine, entered in the eighth and allowed Flora's two-run double that capped Cobleskill's six-run inning. He recovered, however, to strike out the next batter, and allowed just one hit in the top of the ninth but got a double play grounder to end the inning. He earned the win when Kelly hit the walk-off homer.

Liam Krasney (Earlton/Greenville) started for Cortland and tossed an inning and two thirds of hitless ball with a walk and two strikeouts. Bryan Bernard (Howell, NJ) struck out three batters over the next inning and a third, Shane Van Dam (Cranford, NJ) tossed a scoreless fourth inning with two strikeouts, allowing a hit and a walk. Other bullpen highlights included a perfect sixth inning by Tommy Lynch (West Seneca/Canisius) and two thirds of a scoreless inning by Zack Zarrilli (Farmingdale) in the seventh.

Tanner Wood started for Cobleskill and allowed four runs, three earned, on seven hits in two innings. Evan Balbera was the strongest of the Fighting Tigers' four relievers, allowing one hit and no runs in an inning and two thirds. Devin Lewis entered to start the eighth and took the loss.

Cortland led 3-0 in the first on a Mackenzie RBI single and Kringdon two-run double. A two-out error allowed a run to score in the second to make it 4-0, and the Red Dragons added a run in the fourth on a Chemotti sacrifice fly and another in the fifth on a Matthew Krafft (Cornwall) RBI fielder's choice.

Cobleskill's six-run eighth included a Logan Firment sac fly, a Stephen Tejada RBI groundout and RBI singles by Chris Champlin and Zach Ducorsky in addition to Flora's two-run double (Flora was safe at third on the play due to an error). Cortland's tying rally in the eighth started with a one-out Mackenzie single, followed a wild pitch and Tierney's two-out RBI single up the middle. Kelly, who entered the game as a pinch hitter in the seventh, ended the game in the ninth with his homer on a 1-1 count.
