BEREA, Ohio -- The Allegheny College baseball team earned one of its biggest victories in over a decade, as the Gators traveled to Berea, Ohio, and knocked off No. 3 nationally-ranked Baldwin Wallace University on Wednesday evening by a 7-4 final score.

The Gators (4-8) put together a complete all-around performance to down the Yellow Jackets (13-3), who reached their highest ranking in program history in this week's edition D3baseball.com/National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Top 25 poll.

Allegheny never trailed, thanks to a two-run double off the bat of Alejandro Samayoa (Katonah, N.Y./John Jay Cross River) in the top of the second. In the following inning, Sullivan Schueltz (Ligonier, Pa./Ligonier Valley) extended the lead to 3-0 with a solo blast. Although Baldwin Wallace narrowed the gap to 4-3 in the sixth, the Gators took advantage of several errant plays in a three-run eighth. The Yellow Jackets committed two errors in the innings and allowed runs to score on a pair of bases-loaded wild pitches.

On the mound, Brent Herrmann (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield) and Brenden Gray (Pittsburgh, Pa./South Park) combined to limit Baldwin Wallace to just four runs, tied for the fewest the Yellow Jackets have scored in a game this spring. Both pitchers danced in and out of trouble at times, as Herrmann and Gray stranded 14 runners on base, which included leaving the bases loaded with the game-winning run at the plate in the bottom of the ninth.
